Golmaal returns and so do I??

The problem with staying outside India is that you start watching all the hindi movies.. and after some time you start to enjoy even the third grade movies.. in the recent 3-4 months a lot of hindi movies were released.. and most of them were like Indian cricket team on paper and performance wise on screen like Pakistani cricket team on most of the days.

So when I heard Golmaal Returns is getting released I was equally apprehensive of the result.. and was presuming this will be another dud packaged like diwali gift… but it turned out to be good..

Now Golmaal was always in my list of fav movies.. both the amol palekar one as well as the new one of AJAY, ARSHAD , TUSHAR and SHARMAN JOSHI..

So on a Thursday eve when I had nothing else to do.. I started watching GOLMAAL RETURN..the pirated version courtesy Internet . The initial few minutes was the buildup and I felt film will be a washout with nonsensical joke rehash and 15 mins into the movie I realized it has a story.. though it’s a lift…

NOW LET ME PUT A BIG SPOILER FOR ALL THOSE WHO THINK THE MOVIE IS A ORIGNAL RE HASH OF JOKES>>>>>

NO, THIS IS NOT ORIGNAL - it’s a full copy of 1973 movie.. most won’t have seen that movie as the movie had a very little known hero .. who we know now as a villan.. let me give you a hint.. LOTIA PATHAN.. of TEZAAB…yes the son of great JEEVAN.. yes buddies.. the hero was KIRAN KUMAR.

Now let me spoil it further by telling the name of the little known movie.. AAJ KI TAAJA KHABAR..

In the original -

Kiran kumar gets stuck in a giant ferris wheel with a woman all night due to power failure. He arrives home the next day, and meets a very suspicious wife, she doesn’t believe his story about the stalled ferris wheel, and he invents a story about spending the night with a fictitious friend named Champak Boomia. His wife never believes that he has a friend by that name, and decides to write to him to come and visit her. Kiran kumar then convinces his friend, Asrani to pretend that he is Champak, and thus convince his wife that he was indeed telling the truth. Asrani agrees to do so, and then everything goes for a six when the real Champak Boomia(Paintal) turns up.. result is CHAOS.. total chaos..

Now Replace KIRAN KUMAR with AJAY DEVGAN, ASRANI WITH SHREYAS TALPADE ( who is actually filling in for Laxman from the first GOLMAAL), throw in a TUSHAAR as a sidekick saala.. and ARSHAD WARSI as a confused mixup of madhav and Inspector.. throw in VASOOLI , AATMA RAM(VRAJESH HIRJEE) to remind us of first GOLMAAL and a KAREENA KAPOOR with a overdose of Teleserials and some innuendo and jokes..…. The BHELPURI ready is packaged as – GOLMAAL RETURNS.

Since it’s a bhelpuri.. its chatpati and so most will like it.. somewill find it TEEKI.. somewill find it AWESOME..somewill find it TASTY.. and it will be a HIT.. so go out and enjoy.

Fuljadi dialogues of the movie-

Yeh pehli main nahi tha na .. reminder to the first Golmaal ( or second as first will always be amol palekar one)

Aajkal toh bina ringtone ke phone bhi hit hone lag gaye.

Dekho kaise chipak raha hai.. Isi liye toh har jagah mall he mall ban rahe hain .

Anthony aa gaya hai abh amar, akbar bhi aa jaayenge.. milke picture dekhnege.

Yeh madhav hai pehle bhi black black khel chukka hai….Yahan pe barf kyun nahi pad rahi hai..

BALAJEEEEE…. Watch it to understand it ;-)

Pehli main heroine le gaya dusri main naukree..teesri main ; rahega hee nahi.. a legpull on Gunga Tushaar

Fuss bombs..
Lara dutta marries brian lara she becomes- LARA LARA..

The Climax.. straight out of the comic book

kahani ek raat kee

Do diwane shahar mein, raat mein aur dopahar mein aabodana dhundhate hain ek aashiyana dhundhate

This hindi song in husky voice of bhupinder sums up this movie in 1 line..

When I have summed up the movie in 1 line why the hell am I writing the whole review.. hmm need a reason right.. reason is.. since there is no review posted on it on MS.. I mouthpadded and got it listed so need to post too and above all it’s a GOLDIE HAWN movie.. she has hardly acted in a handful of movies over such a long career.. and also its about NY… a place adopted by me till recently as my home..
We all have in our life moved from one city to another and many cities just embrace us and we adopt it and the city adopts us but sometimes we just feel out of towners..
I had felt the same with Chennai.. never able to relate to it and become a chennaite.. I was always an outsider there.. but this story is not about Chennai.. its about the big apple.. now living in this city for sometime I can relate to it.. it has a pull, an energy.. which you can get pulled into or can be scary, especially the underbelly which is exposed at night. if you are rubbed the wrong way.. so what does one does when he is planning to move out of NY to a countryside… is nostalgic.. is contemplating... lands up in a hotel over a weekend and has nothing to do.. Except to look for apartments online as the weather is less then decent outside.. so once again I start switching channels and land up on a channel showing a movie of my fav star and NY… watch it.. and here is the review.. Thanks USA (not the country.. the channel network) for showing me one more movie of my fav star..

Now imagine Steve Martin, Goldie Hawn and John Cleese in one movie.. what could be nearest.. Govinda, Chunky in Aankhen and david dhawan style comedy or Akshay, sunil shetty in a priyadarshan’s herapheri or to be precise phir herapheri… that means a lot of slapstick comedy…a buffoonry.. where you keep you brain aside and just watch and laugh..
The story starts with Henry (Steve) getting a high paying job offer in NY. While in actual he has lost his job and just can’t share this with his wife. So he takes a flight out of Iowa to NY and suddenly his wife Nancy(Goldie) joins him to surprise him.. and the fun starts, now the plane can't land in New York and is rerouted to boston, luggage is lost and then the hotel reservation is messed up and to beat it.. their credit card was decined.. that too because his daughter has maxed it out with her attached card and all this happens in quick mins. There's just nothing funny about it.. right.. there is the way the couple act and react.. now they have to spend a night in the city till the morning before he takes his interview.. here there tryst with the city starts.. a city they despise and they keep falling into situations.. and finally when the night is over.. they are no more outsiders.. they are also newyorkers..
Now the movie has its own moments.. but I have seen steve in better movies.. but he was classic in the scene after he was high on drugs.. and then he does the ad lib to get the job.. John cleese was excellent as a snobbish hotel manager for the world but is a cross dresser in his room and above all Goldie for her giggly self.. Surprisingly.. a movie where Goldie acts above 40’s and look her age..
I feel the movie was a disappointment when it was released as not heard much about it even though it has 3 people known for their comic timings.. but a good watch over DVD over a lazy weekend.

Some interesting scenes –
Goldie and Steve making out on park and mayor inaugurating a statue next to them.. and they come into public..
both chased by horse ridding police in central park
Steve’s return from jail where he has taken LSD thinking of it as asprin.
Goldie giving piece of mind to policeman and then giving sweet talks to hotel manager.
Steve offering Goldie the role of partner in his new advertising job.

TRIVIA –
Released in 1999.
Runs for 90 mins and except few mins.. u run with it.
Director: Sam Weisman
When googled came to know it’s a remake of 70’s movie of same name..

Cast –
Steve Martin -(Henry Clark )
Goldie Hawn – (Nancy)
John Cleese (hotel manager- forgetting name now Mr Mesault or something like that)
Mark McKinney, Oliver Hudson (in real also he is Goldie’s son) and ex Mayor of NY Rudy Giuliani in a guest appearance.

The Banger Sisters -Carry on sisters.. living from past

Some friendships last forever, like it or not!!
What do you do when you are torn between past and future.. what do you do when you want to forget the past and want to move on.. one just close himself/herself from the past and makes a new begigning.. Easier said then done.. and how does it affect your psyche..

This is not a REVIEW.. this is just some mumbo jumbo of my thoughts and what I do and see in my free time.. free time as in when I have nothing else to do and even half hour of channel surfing doesn’t stop at something interesting… and then I end up on a channel out of the 2000 odd options my dish serves me.. which is airing some movie of the REKHA of Holly wood which also happens to be my fav Hollywood star.. However odd movie it might be.. but since it has GOLDIE HAWN.. I have to watch it..

Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.. rightly said by John Lennon..

so what’s this movie is all about..Its a chick flick about the late 60’s and early 70’s punk generation .. depicted by Hawn and Sarandon; one is living in the past and the other one who’s hiding it as a bad dream..and the story is about how they come together and live it up for today. Lavinia(Susan) and Suzette (Goldie) are "The Banger Sisters", two groupies from the late 60’s who slept with the likes of Jim Morrison and Kieth Richards and had the past time of clicking Polaroid of the privates of their famous rock star lovers for posterity.. Lavinia moves on from being Vinnie of the 60’s and turn into an upright matron mom and successful wife of a wealthy man with political aspirations and totally devoted to raising her two daughters while suzette is still trapped in the past..still a hippie.. Destiny crosses them again when Suzette losses her job and need money so she sets out to Phoenix in search of her old friend. Lavinia's is dismayed, at first, when Suzette shows up. She's never confided her wild teenage experiences to husband or daughters, and they're frankly shocked at her choice of friends, and the influence Suzette seems to have over her. The contrast is best expressed when Lavinia realizes her whole life, like her perfectly kept and coordinated wardrobe, has been "beige". And here the movie fall apart.. the bottled up emotions of Susan are somewhat real somewhat fake.. she has acted rigid like a pole tied to her backbone( I had more colorful words but MS wont allow that).. Its Goldie who runs away with her easy portrayal and persona.
Other side characters like Lavinia’s two snooty daughters just fill the space.. only notable one is Rush (as Harry ) a neurotic writer Goldie meets on her way from Sunset strip to Phoenix when she sets out to search her banger sister..

Susan and Goldie are good in parts and the chemistry is good mostly but the movie lacks substance at most places..It must have been the allure of working together that compelled these two wonderful actresses into making this project. The concept is an intriguing one but it’s the execution that falls flat. As much as I admire the talent of Hawn and Sarandon I can’t recommend this woefully, unfunny tale .. unless you also like holding past or hiding past ;-)

Watch it for Hawn’s attitude while strutting her silicones ala Pamela Anderson ( in clothes) and don’t watch it for the pants Sarandon got herself in..( I am still trying to figure out how she got into them..)

Some interesting scenes –Susan’s explanation of Hawn’s tattoo.
Susan bumping Rush with car when he is in a rage and is not listening to them.
Goldie motherly affection to Susan’s daughter Hannah who is ready to puke on prom night.
Goldie buzzing off Hanah’s friend.
Goldie and Susan’s face off. Goldie and Susan at DMV.

TRIVIA –

down south up north.. or somewhere in between

These 5 songs I dedicate to someone special...

Music is beyond language.. people jive on the tunes of khaled’s didi , Macarena or Livin' La Vida Loca," but when it comes to regional music in India, people will have different opinion.. We just get struck to our local flavors with only occasionally looking outside it.

Though I don’t understand any of the south indian languages in which these songs are sung (mostly Tamil and 1 Malayalam) but yes I love each one of them and over the years by listening to them have started to understand the wordings and the lyrics too.. Here I present my favorite five and they have some nice videos too.. Most of these songs got there singers a national award (sure about 2 not sure about the others) all were major hits in there local area so definitely lot of filmfare n other awards..
